Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners
Balancing folk songwriting, rock ’n’ roll energy, raw instrumentation, and sonic wanderlust, Seattle-based trio Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners—Mitch Cutts, Nic Haughn, and Jakob Ervin—draw inspiration from the friendship that began in high school in Colorado Springs. What started as a passion project recording in closets and stairwells turned into billions of streams and packed shows across the country. The band’s early projects, including RMCM, Solstice, and Subliming, showcased their eclectic influences ranging from Vampire Weekend and Bon Iver to Cage The Elephant and Portugal. The Man. Their breakout moment came when the one-minute intro to “Evergreen” exploded on TikTok, leading to over half a billion Spotify streams, 20 million monthly listeners, and chart placements on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Rock Songs, and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. Tracks like “Lake Missoula,” “Wet Socks,” and “Subliming” further cemented their growing fanbase while highlighting their vulnerability and connection to nature.
Building on this success, the band launched their first proper headline tour in 2023 and hit major festivals like Lollapalooza, Under The Big Sky, and Hinterland, collaborating with Mt. Joy and Caamp on new versions of fan favorites “Lake Missoula” and “Evergreen.” 2024 saw them continue the momentum with singles including “Signal Sender,” “Careful,” “Northstar,” and “Sierra Vista,” culminating in their biggest sold-out tour yet. Through every milestone, Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners have remained rooted in the friendship that has carried them from high school projects to a thriving career. As Mitch reflects, “We started this as kids. Keeping it going through college, jobs, and moving around was a huge accomplishment for us. It’s kind of mind-blowing that we’ve turned this into a career in the last year. For me, it’s symbolic of being able to work together and write honest music with a lot of vulnerability.”
